Vitamin B5 - Pantothenic Acid A good nickname for vitamin B5, Pantothenic Acid, is the "Adrenal Vitamin". Pantothenic acid is needed by the adrenal glands to produce stress hormones. When the body is under stress, be it physical, mental, or emotional, vitamin B5 is used to produce the adequate amount of stress hormones like cortisol. This vitamin enables the body to cope with stress. The more stress we are experiencing, the faster pantothenic acid is depleted. In addition to the production of stress hormones, vitamin B5 also plays a role in other important functions of the body. Pantothenic acid is reported by most of its users as having increased their energy levels and reduced fatigue. Pantothenic acid is commonly recommended for people with allergies and is reported by many as very beneficial for reducing allergy symptoms. Pantothenic Acid, also known as vitamin B5, is manufactured in part by intestinal microorganisms. This water-soluble vitamin is necessary for proper adrenal function, the conversion of fat and sugar into energy, the maintenance of normal growth and tissue replacement, and the development of the central nervous system. It works in tandem with the other B-complex vitamins. Pantothenic acid is needed to make steroid hormones and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. The body may need increased amounts of this vitamin when under physical stress. For best results, take Pantothenic Acid in conjunction with other B vitamins. Foods high in Pantothenic acid include: eggs, organ meats, chicken, fish, whole grains, cauliflower, and avocadoes. Each capsule provides 250 mg of d-calcium pantothenate or 2,500 percent of the Daily Value. |
