Magnesium

 

            Magnesium is needed for several hundred enzymatic activities, many of which contribute to energy production and cardiovascular function.  Magnesium helps relax the cardiac muscle and dilate the blood vessels, and can be a natural cure for heart palpitations, arrhythmias, and high blood pressure.  A decreased level of magnesium has been found in the heart and blood of heart attack victims.

 

            Magnesium is a natural tranquilizer, as it functions to relax skeletal, cardiac, and the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract, and is an alternative therapy for stress and anxiety.  Magnesium is needed in several enzymes which metabolize carbohydrates, and is also needed for proper DNA production and function. 

 

            Supplementing with magnesium has been shown to alleviate the symptoms of PMS and the menstrual period.  Symptoms such as cramps, irritability, fatigue, water retention, and depression can be naturally cured with magnesium supplementation.  Most people report deeper, more peaceful sleep when magnesium is taken.  Magnesium is usually taken before bed as it relaxes muscles and naturally relieves stress..
