Spiritual and Healing Properties of Sugilite:

               Sugilite was first discovered in Japan in 1944, but was not confirmed as a distinct mineral until 1976.  It is named after the man who discovered it, Kenichi Sugi.  More than two hundred new minerals are discovered each year, and most of these do not become popular with jewelers or healers.  Sugilite is an exeption to this fact.  It is a favorite among jewelers because of its ability to be easily cut and polished into beads and carbochone.  The most beautiful gems come from India and South Africa where sugilite is known as Royal Azel, or Royal Lavulite.  Its rich purple color makes it a popular for spiritual healers, psychics, and as a new age stone.  It is believed that sugilite can help to integrat spiritual qualities into the modern age.  This crystal works very well at the crown chakra and is used to stimulate and clear this chakra.  Used at the crown chakra, sugilite opens it as a channel for the entrance of universal energies into the body and mind which energizes the entire chakra system.  It is a very useful stone for sensitive individuals and those who find it difficult to relate to others and this modern age.  Creating balance and coordination between the left and right hemispheres of the brain, as well as strengthening the entire nervous system are two important functions of sugilite.
